  • A priest in Bishop Quinn’s diocese wrote a bulletin announcement calling him out for presenting an award and speaking highly of Theodore McCarrick. “I was present at the rector-bishop dinner held at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN on April 24, 2014 when Bishop John M. Quinn gave the Heart of Mary Award to Theodore Cardinal McCarrick,” the priest wrote. “He gave glowing accolades about the then Cardinal and how as a friend had encouraged him along the way by his example and kindness.” The priest then asked “What kind of example was Bishop Quinn talking about as he praised the now shamed former Cardinal accused of corruption, sexual abuse and creating a culture of sexual perversion?” The Judicial Vicar for Quinn’s diocese said the bishop “only had a casual acquaintance” with McCarrick and that he was “surprised” by the revelations about his abusive behavior. • Bishop Quinn had a letter he wrote read to all the parishes in his diocese in 2012 rebuking the Obama administration’s contraception mandate. The letter said the mandate casts aside the First Amendment and warned that “We cannot – we will not – comply with this unjust law. People of faith cannot be made second-class citizens.” (Post Bulletin)
