Archbishop Gomez said he is “horrified” that abuse has been committed. He expressed a need to “hold people accountable.” Despite not mentioning Vigano’s name in his remarks on the revelations, Gomez pointed to a statement released by the USCCB on the need to investigate McCarrick and to ensure protocols are introduced so complaints are better handled. Gomez said those proposals should “go a long way in addressing the culture of clericalism that contributed to these abuses and failures in leadership.”
