Bishop Knestout released a reflection on Pope Paul VI’s encyclical, Humanae Vitae, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its publication. Knestout wrote that this encyclical’s assertion on the dignity of human life and contraception “remains as timely today as it was when first issued.” Knestout referred to artificial contraception as “the deliberate obstruction of the capacity to transmit life inherent by God’s design.” He also noted that contraception “is at the root of issues regarding human sexuality manifest in today’s culture.”
