On January 23, 2019, Archbishop Aquila released a pastoral letter notifying Catholics that he opposes a bill being debated in the Colorado legislature that would require public and charter schools to teach a comprehensive sex-ed curriculum about abortion, gender identity, and sexual orientation or provide no instruction on sexuality at all. Aquila said the bill “contradicts human nature” and that he will “stand firmly against all ideologies that defy natural law and contradict the truth that has been revealed to us about the human person.”
